Power Prompt 2

The code is a mess, it's huge, it's very slow. It's also garish. That said, I still think it's kind of neat, because it provides a lot of information.

The third set of blue square brackets is the most interesting and the least obvious: "<A>.<B>-<C>x" indicates A files in the current directory, B hidden files. Of the visible files, C of them are executable. "1.0d" indicates 1 directory, no hidden directories. These parts will always appear. If you cd to a directory with links or block devices (such as /dev), you get more information. The next set of blue square brackets indicates the load, and the final set on the first line is the number of running processes.

Code:

#!/bin/bash
#----------------------------------------------------------------------
#       POWER USER PROMPT "pprom2"

# Problem: when load is going down, it says "1.35down-.08", get rid
#   of the negative
#   - limit the length of the $PWD to 30 chars - right-truncate if
#   it exceeds that
