• mogrify was more interesting

• "mogrify -geometry 900x700> filename.jpg"

• "mogrify -geometry 200x100 filename.thumb.jpg"

• convert leaves the original file alone, but mogrify changes the original!

• it keeps original proportions (unless otherwise specified)

• the size you give is a maximum
